A series of translation workshops in German “Übersetzen-Vernetzen” within the Frameworks of the Days of Germany in Pyatigorsk – 2020 Festival has started at PSU. On November 7, 2020, Pyatigorsk State University opened a traditional festival of Days of Germany in Pyatigorsk – 2020.

The festival with a slogan “Mit Kunst in die Welt” is occasioned with the 250th anniversary of an outstanding German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The festival’s program includes events, devoted to Russian-Germany relations in the fields of culture, art, education, and science. The festival started with a translation workshop within the frameworks of “Übersetzen-Vernetzen” project, which is implemented by a team of the German Service of Academic Exchanges, represented by DAAD lecturers from four universities (Hendrik Jackson – Moscow State University, Sabine Korin – Pyatigorsk State University, Jana George – North Caucasus Federal University, Kathrin Kazimirek – Tomsk State University).

Poet and interpreter Aleksandr Filyuta became the guest of the first workshop, which took place online at ZOOM. He studied Russian and German philology in Saint Petersburg and then in Germany. He has been living and working as a translator and interpreter in Berlin for many years. His online lecture was focused on a translation practice in a timely digital form. Vast opportunities of digitalization, including such a close field for us as a translation, have multiple applications and inexhaustible tools, but at the same time, they promise growing workloads. The webinar was moderated by Hendrik Jackson, a DAAD lecturer at MSU. The workshop gathered lecturers from the Chair of German Studies and Intercultural Communication and IRGLIHT students, as well as students and lecturers of universities of Moscow, Stavropol, and Siberia.

All the participants received valuable information and answers for their questions from the source – a skillful expert who not only practices relevant types of interpretation but also continues a scholarly work.

The German Service of Academic Exchanges is going to present a range of online events concerning translation: online workshops announcements on November 21 and December 12 are available on the web page.

Pre-registration is available here.

We invite everyone interested in translation and those willing to work with the German language.
