Pyatigorsk State University Switches to the Electronic Education

All students and teaching staff of Pyatigorsk State University will have on-line classes. The relevant order was signed by Aleksandr Gorbunov, Rector of the University. This decision is caused by preventive measures against the contagion of students and officers of PSU and further spreading of coronavirus.

On March 14, 2020, Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, signed an order which recommends the organization of a contact work of students and teaching staff only in the electronic educational system and implementation of educational programs in full.

Following this order, Pyatigorsk State University announced the transition of all students to on-line education, using distant educational technologies starting from March 16, 2020.

In accordance with the Federal law “On Education in the Russian Federation”, PSU created all conditions to implement educational programs using distant educational technologies. There is an Electronic Informational and Educational System which contains informational and educational resources, as well as a total of informational technologies and means, which allows students to learn their programs in full, not depending on their location.

A.P. Gorbunov, Rector of Pyatigorsk State University said that the university is ready to implement the order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education in full: “The whole educational process is implemented through the servers and services, located at PSU. We have full-time and extramural students who study using electronic education and distance educational technologies. The Electronic Informational and Educational System has been functioning since 2008, and during all these years full-time and extramural students partly used on-line education. At the moment we have more than 9,500 different electronic courses. All disciplines of all educational programs of the university are necessarily backed by electronic educational resources (lectures, additional literature) and control (tests, tasks, interviews) in the system.”

The university administration informs students and co-workers about the necessity to reduce visits to crowded public places. Under the Rectors order mass events are cancelled or postponed for later dates.

The university has strengthened the monitoring of regular and qualitative disinfection, cleaning, and ventilation of rooms (including dormitory) using disinfection means.

There were no cases of PSU students or lecturers contagion registered.
