International Scientific and Practical Conference “Opportunities and Problems of Teaching Russian Language Online in the Word Space during the Pandemic” took place in PSU
04.12.2020International Scientific and Practical Conference “Opportunities and Problems of Teaching Russian Language Online in the World Space during the Pandemic” took place online from December 1 to 3, 2020. The event was organized by the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia, and Pyatigorsk State University. The conference was devoted to the 20th anniversary of Russian language studying at Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, and the 5th anniversary of the Croatian Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers foundation.
Rector of PSU, Professor A.P. Gorbunov, said a greeting speech to all the participants of the conference, underlying the importance of Russian-Croatian dialogue: the university is preparing to open the Center of Croatian Language and Culture, students have begun studying Croatian under the guidance of Professor Irena Mikulaco, who initiated and organized the conference.
Prorector of PSU, Professor Z.A. Zavrumov noted the efficiency of intercultural communication and “people’s diplomacy” in the strengthening of partner relations between Russian and foreign universities.
About 150 participants from 18 countries including Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Danmark, India, Spain, Kuba, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, the USA, France, and Croatia took part in the conference. More than 60 reports were presented, including 10 plenary reports. The guests discussed important problems of distant Russian teaching as a foreign language and mentioned all the parts of Russian language teaching: principals, methods, tools, aids, visual means, innovative scientific and methodic projects, research activity of students, discussion as a form of teaching, as well as issues of cooperation in the Russian language teaching, timely problems of Russian teaching for different audiences. All the teachers, based on the current scientific fundamentals, shared their new ideas and working-outs. Those were the interesting days of joint fruitful work on the discovery of contemporary fundamentals of Russian language teaching in conditions of online-education.
It is worth noting that Pyatigorsk methodic school of teaching Russian as a foreign language was well represented by I.B. Fedotova and N.A. Orlova, who moderated the sections of the conference, D.I. Merinova, a graduate of PSU, majoring in “Pedagogic Education” (Linguopedagogic models of teaching Russian as a foreign language), who taught Russian in Portugal, presented her methodic works, and K.G. Khachaturova, postgraduate student of PSU, a teacher at the Center of International Education.
Professional communication like this is especially important today: divided by kilometers, frontiers, and time zones, Russian language teachers felt united and like-minded.
The conference received big positive international feedback and was highly estimated by the International Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers, the Russian World fund, and all participants of the conference from all over the world.
