The Second International Scientific Conference on Russian Studies in Slavonic, European, and Global Context
06.10.2021The Second International Scientific Conference on Croatian Studies in Slavonic, European, and Global Context took place online from September 30 to October 2 and included a conference on Russian Studies in Slavonic, European, and Global Context. The conference was devoted to the 25th anniversary of the Chair of Croatian Language and Literature and 20 years of Russian language studies at the Philosophy Department at Juraj Dobrila Univesity of Pula, Croatia. The event was organized by the Philosophy Department at Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Pushkin Institute – Center of Russian Language and Culture in Pula, Croatian Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers, together with partner Pyatigorsk State University under the authority of the International Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers and Rossotrudnichestvo.
Representatives of PSU – I.B. Fedotova and N.A. Orlova – took part in the significant moments of the conference: N.A. Orlova said a greeting speech to the conference members, and performed her reports on “Dostoevsky and Modern Times”, “Particularity of the Russian Antroponyms Teaching at Russian as Foreign Language Classes”, I.B. Fedotova performed her report on “Particularities of Master’s Students Training to Teach Russian as Foreign Language Online” at the plenary meeting. The report reflected Russian-Croatian cooperation within the frameworks of the international cooperation of PSU, mentioned the beginning of Croatian language study at PSU as a new stage of cooperation, presented the Center of Croatian Language and Culture which is being prepared for a ceremonious opening. Irina Fedotova emphasized that a multifaceted collaboration was made possible by the administrations of Pula and Pyatigorsk university, and personally by PSU Rector Aleksandr Gorbunov, Viktor Mishin, Head of the Department of International Relations and Educational Programs, as well as Professor Irena Mikulaco, a talented scholar, professional organizer, expert and lover of Russian language, a top-qualification specialist in Croatian language teaching.
Apart from that, the PSU representatives became moderators of “Methods of Russian as Foreign and Native Language Teaching”, which gather 17 listeners and 8 speakers, who represented Russia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, and other countries. The reports revealed the essence of intercultural education by means of Russian among Slavonic listeners: they characterized the status of Russian in the global communicational space, highlighted the unity of Russian language and culture with other Slavonic countries, which determined the relevance of “culture through language” model, and brought out the focus area of “Russian as Foreign Slavonic Language.” During the section meeting, the members discussed the issues of mediator language importance while studying Russian as a foreign language and the methodic value of the translation exercises, which allows students to understand Russian words right and to use discourse words actively in the conversation. They also gave an accent to the utilization of the Russian National Corpus as a linguistical and methodical resource while practicing Russian as a foreign language. It is important that all reports were based on the personal experience of Russian teaching to different students, and all the textbooks and academic aids represented gathered that experience and transmitted it through the system of author exercises. While discussing the section program issues, members pronounced their opinion on the necessity to write nation-guided textbooks on Russian as a foreign language.
Master’s students of 44.04.01 Pedagogic education (Linguopedagogic Models of Russian as Foreign Language Teaching) also took part in the conference.
