Educational Institution of Higher Education «Pyatigorsk State University» (former Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University) is a major innovative, educational, research and humanities center of South Russia, widely known throughout the country and abroad under the brand name “University that Opens and Transforms the World”. This is the university of creative ideas, creative professions, creative practices and technologies.


The officials of the Stavropol Region and the North Caucasus Federal District do not exaggerate when they say that there are many prestigious institutes and universities in our region. No doubt, our region is unique and so are its universities and institutes.

Pyatigorsk State University is among them. It is one of several universities in the country which implements qualified training in foreign languages teaching and the main university of this type in the South Russia. The university trains a new type of graduates – transforming leaders, who are able to create and implement new innovations.

The campus spreads across one of the most beautiful areas in Pyatigorsk, the precious gem of Stavropol Territory and Caucasian Mineral Spa Region glorified by the great Russian poets and writers Michael Lermontov, Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy who created their poems and novels here. In 2010 by the Decree of the President of Russia Pyatigorsk was declared as the capital city of the North Caucasus Federal District.

The university has a rich history and old traditions dating back to 1939 when Pyatigorsk State Pedagogical Institute was founded. Later, in 1961 it was transformed into Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, and in 1995 it acquired the status of a Linguistic University. Since 2006 the university has headed for the changes from a conventional university to a creative innovative university, the leading center of education, science and innovations.
In May 2016 a new era of the university development as a multidisciplinary institution started.

Following the order no. 566 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation from May 13, 2016 “Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University” was renamed into “Pyatigorsk State University”. This decision came into force after the registration of Unified State Register of Legal Entities on May 27, 2016.

Since December 2005 the university has been headed by Professor Alexander Gorbunov. Since 2009, Alexander Gorbunov has also been the Chairman of the Public Council of Pyatigorsk. In 2010 and in 2015 he was re-elected to the post of the Rector of the university and confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

It’s due to the efforts of Alexander Gorbunov that the university entered a new phase of development which involved transition from a conventional university to transforming (creative and innovative) university which implements a university concept as a multicultural civil and professional society, evolving into the center of linguistic and cultural diversity and “The University that Opens and Transforms the World”. Since that time the university has changed drastically.
In 2006 the university was ranked as third in the rating list of the best Russia’s pedagogical and liberal arts universities monitored by national Ministry of Education and Science. According to Vladimir Potanin Charity Fund’s independent research, it was nominated as one of the country’s best universities for the 15th time.

As per results of the prestigious All-Russia Contest “Russian Organization of High Social Efficiency” sponsored by the Government of Russia in 2007 the University won a prize in the nomination “Education and Science”.

The Russian certification in 2007 and the international certification in April 2009 verified the high level of quality management at the university.
In 2008 the university began issuing European Diploma Supplements to its graduates’ diplomas.

In 2008 PSLU was successfully certified by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia and in 2009 PSLU was awarded its special diploma for the major contribution to the training of highly-skilled specialists, for the scientific research in philology and linguistics. In October 2011, and then in October 2014  the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia included PSU in its list and issued a respective certificate confirming a high level and quality of the training, retraining and refresher programs for specialists graduating from PSLU.

In March 2009 Professor Alexander Gorbunov, the Rector of the University along with rectors of 22 other Russian universities (PSLU was the only university from the South of Russia) took part in the First Forum of rectors of Russian, Spanish and Latin American universities held during the official visit of President Dmitry Medvedev to the Kingdom of Spain. That was an important landmark in the history of the university.

In November 2012, PSLU organized a meeting of the NCFD Institutions Rectors’ Council, with participation of the Deputy Chairman of the Government – first Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Ganndievich Khloponin, wh ere Rector of the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University Alexander Gorbunov was elected as a Chairman of the NCFD Institutions Rectors’ Council.

In July 2014, Alexander Gorbunov was elected as a member of Council, Board, Presidium, and Vice-President of the Russian Union of Rectors.


In October 2014, while celebrating of the 75th anniversary of PSLU, the university and its administration members were decorated with awards of the Council of Federation and State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.



On March 2015, followed by an order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the staff of the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University was received a gratitude “For a big contribution into the development of education and high-qualified experts training”. The award was handed out by the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District Sergey Alimovich Melikov during his official visit in PSLU.



Since 2014 the university is the single institution of the Russian South included into “Education in Russian” state program of the Russian language support and promotion in Russia and abroad.

In December 2015 the project of the university occupied the third place in the All-Russian competition “Literature Legacy”, organized within the frameworks of the Year of Literature in Russia by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Deputy Minister of the Education and Science V.S. Kaganov and Rector of Pushkin State Institute for Russian Language M.N. Rusetskaya highly praised the creative activity of the university in Russian Language, literature, and culture promotion into the world educational space.

In 2015 the university occupied the first place in annual All-Russian competition for a student dormitory among educational establishments of higher education of Russia, which was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation together with Trade-Union of Workers in Public Education and Science in the RF.


Since 2009 PSU has been an official member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) under the aegis of UN. In October 2010 our university delegation was invited to take part in the World Congress of Universities.

Pyatigorsk University is a member of International Association of Applied Languages (AILEA), EURHODIP Association, National Association of Communication - USA, the member of the SCO Consortium of Humanities Universities of Shanghai Organization for Cooperation and the Inter-University Council for Spiritual Education of the Commonwealth of Independent Countries (CIS).

Pursuant to formal rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation PSLU has been listed among top ten Liberal Arts universities in the country, and in recent years referred to as one of the best institutions of higher education in the country according results of independent validations. In 2008 the university began issuing European Diploma Supplements to its graduates’ diplomas.

In October 2009 PSLU was awarded with the Silver Lermontov Medal by Russian Lermontov Committee in appreciation of its contribution in implementation of advanced methods of teaching.

Per results of 2009 PSLU became the prizewinner of “A Hundred Best Goods of Russia” Program in the nomination “Educational Services” and was awarded with a Diploma and Medal “Quality Excellence”, while in May 2010 PSLU was granted with a Golden Medal under the nomination “100 Best Organizations of Russia in Science and Education”.

In summer 2010, students of PSLU were awarded with the Second Class Diploma for the participation in the contest of students projects on the subject of service sector and hotel service within the scope of the 17th international conference of the EURHODIP Association in Saragos (Spain), which hosted representatives of 22 countries.

On December 7th, 2010 the University confirmed its socially credible status becoming the only North Caucasus institution of higher education among 26 winners of the All-Russian contest privileged to establish the Volunteers Training Center for XXII Olympic Games and XI Paralympics in Sochi in 2014.

  • "Administrative activities and accreditation";
  • "Communication and media facilitation";
  • "Facilitating delegations, protocol, linguistic services".

and the Certificate of conferral of "The Volunteers Center Sochi – 2014" status has been handed over to the University by Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin and his Deputy Dmitri Kozak.

In 2014 “PROFI-SOCI-LINGUA” volunteers center sent 800 people at XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Paralympic Games. Being a part of the 25,000 volunteers they brilliantly implemented their work in functions like linguistic services, media, accreditation, protocol, arrivals and departures, event management with foreign participants.

On January 23, 2014 Pyatigorsk was the first city in the North Caucasus to receive the Olympic Flame Relay. 71 torchbearers and 5 PSLU representatives among them carried the flame by the city streets.


Volunteers of the Center are invited into organization of all significant events in the university, as well as outside the university, which included: XIII Conference of IPA Members of Central and Eastern Europe and VI Conference of All-Russian Police Association (2012), APEC Summit (2012), “WOMAD” World Music, Art, and Dance Festival (2013), TEDx – TEDxPSLU Conference (2013, 2014, 2015), “Priorities of Market Power Industry in Russia” All-Russian Conference (2014, 2015) etc. The Center’s volunteers are involved in the translation of Russian volunteer organization web-pages, and volunteer tours round the cities of the NCFD.

The participation of the volunteers in 2000th anniversary of  Derbent proved the highest level of the Center’s work. The Center’s team managed the volunteer staff “Derbent 2000”, which coordinated the activity of 1000 volunteers.




Currently over 4500 undergraduates, postgraduates and trainees from 56 Russian regions and 26 foreign countries study at the Institutes and Schools of the University, 3500 more are involved in its Lifelong Learning Structures. All the people and ethnic groups of the North Caucasus are represented in its friendly student community. There was no case for the last 20 years when the university diploma would not recognized or proved in any country. Since 1968 the university trained about 1800 foreign experts for 61 states (Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and other regions of the world).

One of peculiarities of the university is wide geography of its students. PSLU students come from all the republics of the North Caucasus as well as from Tatarstan Republic, Yakutia, Buryatia, Jewish Autonomous Region, Komi Republic, Udmurt Republic, Yamal-Nenets and Khanty Mansi Autonomous Districts, and Tula, Saratov, Murmansk, Sakhalin, Magadan, Chita, Perm, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Arkhangelsk, Kaliningrad, Orenburg, Tomsk, Amur, Belgorod, Sverdlovsk, Moscow, Rostov, Volgograd regions, from Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Foreign students include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Great Britain, Vietnam, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, Iran, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, South Korea, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Sudan, USA, Philippines, and France.

In XXI century every graduate need to communicate freely in foreign languages, to know how to reed any text in world media to be a world class professional. The training of such experts is the principal of PSU and makes up its competitive advantage.

The university provides training on 11 secondary vocational education professions. In 2016 there is an enrolment for the following: Advertisement, Hospitality, Tourism, Law and Social Security, Insurance, Organization and Technology of Information Protection, Applied Computer Science, Social and Culture Activity, Pre-School Education, and all with profound learning of foreign languages.

The higher education training is carried out on multi-level (BA and MA) basis except for several specific professions, and focused on two types of graduates.
The prime-class linguists and philologists belong to the first type and include translators, interpreters, lecturers, experts of Russian as foreign language, teachers of Russian language and literature, specialists of intercultural communication in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, International Tourism, Customs, Interdenominational and State Denominational Cooperation, International Commerce, Multilingualism, Information and Communication Technologies.

The graduates of the second type are those fluent foreign languages speakers who major in Government and Public Administration, Business Management, Human Resources, Information Management, Theology, Oriental Studies, International Tourism and Hospitality, General Psychology, Psychology of Employment Activity, Psycho-Pedagogical Education, Social Work, Youth Outreach Psychology, Public Relations, International Journalism, International Relations, Conflict Management, World Economics, International Law, Taxation, Leisure and Fitness Tourism and Recreation, International Marketing, Advertising, Applied IT, Literary Work, Socio-Cultural Activity, Innovatics, Intellectual Systems in Humanities, Business IT, Quality Management, Law with four programs: International Law, State Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law.

In 2016 enrolment for 55 programs and specializations continues within the frameworks of 35 Higher Professional Education directions in 18 enlarged groups, regardless magistrate.

As well as other leading institutions of Russia and world PSU constantly enlarges its share of master’s and postgraduate students.
Today the university implements 22 newest educational programs for magistrate in 10 majors. All PSU magistrates offer 38 innovative master’s programs in 28 majors.

PhD degree programs offer research opportunities in 10 majors and 21 scientific specializations. About 200 postgraduates study in the university every year.
Scientific, pedagogic, and innovative potential of PSU is growing. There are 6 research institutes, 16 scientific and educational centers and laboratories, 26 basic scientific schools, 33 chairs, PhD dissertational boards in philological, pedagogical (including foreign language teaching methodology), psychological, political, and international relationships.

The university develops more than 60 principal scientific directions, about 50-60 scientific conferences, international, Russian, and regional level congresses are organized every year.

Scientific and innovative potential of the university comprises 800 people, who belong to the human resources of highest qualifications: scientists, teachers, postgraduates, master’s students, among whom are more than 370 doctors, professors, candidates of sciences, associate professors, more than 20 academicians and corresponding members of Russian and foreign academies.

There are 11 diversified multilevel subdivisions of a new type – Institutes and Higher Schools, implementing basic educational programs in PSU.

The Institute of International Relations provides students with the advanced knowledge and perspective in International Relations, World Economy, International Law, Public Relations, International Journalism and Conflict Management with a broad set of foreign languages which includes English, French, Spanish, German, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese and Hebrew. On the basis of the University operates one of the largest centers in the South of Russia in the sphere of international relations and international security.

The Higher School of Language Arts, European and Oriental Languages with “Pushkin Institute” Center for Russian Language and Culture, Center of International Education of PSLU combines conventional education with an internationally oriented approach, training specialists with profound knowledge of Russian language and literature, foreign languages and specific features of the intercultural communication in different regions of the world. A unique subject “Russian as Foreign Language” allows graduates to teach Russian language abroad, since students do also know English. Polish as well as one of oriental languages can also be chosen as a foreign language.

The Institute of Linguistics, Communicative Management and Information Technologies which includes English and German Languages Department, Department of Linguistics and Informational Technologies, and Communicational Management Department, lays emphasis on a broad linguistic, communicational and informational training, though continuing the traditions of tuition of many years. The Institute provides students with profound competence in English and German languages as professionally qualified linguists, specialists in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, tutors and experts in Intercultural Communication in Commerce.

The Institute of Germanic Languages, International Marketing and Innovates includes German and English languages Department, single Russian Department of Spanish and English Languages, French and English Languages Department, which prepares tutors of foreign languages, specialists in intercultural communication international tourism; and departments of: international marketing, international advertisement, information and computer technologies, social technologies, sport and tourist management, innovation studies (in social and humanitarian fields).

The Institute of Translatology and Multilanguage Studies offers eight foreign languages to learn: English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi and Polish. The department of Multilinguism is unique at offering to learn 4 foreign languages (English, German, French and Spanish). The only department in the South of Russia “Literary work” (for the artistic translation) prepares not only translators but also writers and poets. Program called “3+2” is very popular – three years in Russia, two years abroad. This program provides graduates with two diplomas – for Chinese learners – a diploma of PSU and Chanchung University of China, for Arabic learners – a diploma of PSU and Asyute University of Egypt.

The Institute of International Service, Tourism and Foreign Languages which includes Engilsh and Roman languages Department, Department of International Service, Tourism, and Hospitality, Customs Department, and Economics Department, apart from English offers to learn French, Spanish, Italian and provides training of skills in international service, tourism, law and intercultural communication in customs service, intercultural communication in inter-confessional and state-confessional cooperation. It is possible to learn Portugal and oriental languages at the student’s option.  

The Institute of Human Studies is one of the best internationally oriented departments in Russia that enrolls high-quality experts with profound competence in foreign languages as well as in psychological counseling, labor psychology, organizational and managerial psychology, legal psychology, creative, childhood, management and health psychology. Informational Technologies in Psychology Department which works on its basis is chosen by the people who are fond of computer science and successfully combine it with psychology and foreign languages.

The Higher School of Political Administration and Innovative Management offers a great variety of specializations providing knowledge of foreign languages including oriental languages. The School enrolls future public servants, managers, orientalists, lawyers. It offers further specializations: HRM, Information management or Theology, wh ere one can attain fundamental theological education with profound competence in religious culture, either Christian or Islamic within the scope of a unique and called-for specialization “State and confessional relations”.

Judicial Institute (Department) is a new structural division of PSU, formed on July 1st, 2014 on the basis of the Department of International Law at the Institute of International Relations, Customs Department of the Institute of International Service, Tourism and Foreign Languages, Department of Law of the Higher School of Political Administration and Innovative Management. It implements four programs: State Law, International Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law. It also implements educational program of secondary vocational education “Law and Social Security Organization”. Educational process is organized considering the demands of employers and oriented on the practice skills obtainment. Experts from the governmental bodies, local authority, notary office, judicial and law enforcement bodies are invited to give lessons.

Institute of Distant Education and Information and Communication Technologies Development organizes extra-mural distant education in the PSU environment via Internet to let people combine it with their basic occupation, providing students’ presence in the university by means of contemporary informational and communicational technologies. Distant education in PSU gives student a possibility to determine his individual schedule and education pace within semesters, to maintain constant individual contact with a tutor, communication with the university, and to receive specialists’ advice any time. If student do not have technical possibilities for education there are computer classes in PSU. Institute of Distant Education and Information and Communication Technologies Development also provides higher education possibilities together with intramural education in PSU or any other institution of Russia and world. Enrolment is carried out twice a year, in summer and winter.

Institute of Top-Qualification Experts (Postgraduate Education) is a new subdivision of PSU found on February 1st, 2014 after the Federal Law no.273 “About the Education in the Russian Federation”. In accordance with this law programs of scientific and pedagogic experts (postgraduate education), clinic studies, assistantship and internship belong to the principal professional educational programs of higher education. Institute provides intra- and extra-mural education on 11 programs: Fundamental Medicine, Psychological Sciences, Economy, Sociological Sciences, Law, Political Sciences and Region Studies, Mass Media and Information Library Services, Education and Pedagogic Sciences, Linguistics and Literature Studies, Historical Sciences and Archeology, Philosophy, Ethics and Religion Studies.

The University offers a wide system of the additional education, pre-university and post-university education.

The Multilevel Innovative Life-long Learning Academy is a unique department of PSU, which combines educational and scientific functions and offer more than 200 additional training courses.

The Institute of Integrated Higher and Postgraduate Education Programs – is a massive regional center for the advanced training and scientific and methodological work in the south of Russia.

Business-School – is the only School in the region that offers modern and systematic business education on the specialities „Enterprise management“ and „Personnel Management“.

The Institute of state and confessional relations provides training of different level experts in the field of state, confessional, and interconfessional relations, including profound knowledge of Islam for organizational and administrative, representative and intermediary, expert and consult, scientific and analytic activity.

The Center of Pre-Institution Education, Profession Oriented and Adaptation Technologies – Preparatory Department since 2013 has been an independent subdivision of PSU, created in accordance with a concept of necessity for new forms of pre-institution education development, as a constituent part of the PSU lifelong education system. Today one of the principal directions of the Center activity is training of high school students for standard exams, profession orientation work, and psychological advice. Apart from that, workers of the Centers constantly provide methodic help for school teachers and work with school students’ parents talking about new trends of the Russian Education. More than 200 high school students visit trainings in the Preparatory Department of PSU every year.

Judicial Clinic is a structural subdivision of the University which provides a program of a practical judicial training on all the levels of education


In 2011 the University confirmed a new complex of strategy documents – “STRATEGY – 2020 PSLU” – which correlates with the general strategy of the development of the Russian state and society for the next decade. The program of the strategic development of the University for 2012-2016 has also been confirmed and implemented: “Profi-Soci-Lingva 2012-2016”: The formation of the leading university, scientific, educational and innovative center of the international level in the social and humanitarian sphere on the territory of the Stavropol Region and the North Caucasus by means of integration of science, education, innovative entrepreneurship, youth’s project, volunteer and service activity.     

In 2016 the working out of a new Strategic Development Program started.

In 2007, on the initiative of A.P. Gorbunov, the Rector of the University, PSLU started the creation of a new infrastructure of innovative activity. The Scholar Counsel adopted a normative model of the development of the university as an innovative structure, operating in the system of creative economy on the basis of the intellectual property management.

PSU created an advanced infrastructure of innovative and project activity within the system of Technobusinesspark and includes scientific, educational and innovative complexes, scientific, educational and innovative laboratories. The developed innovative and project activity infrastructure has also been developed at PSLU. Such innovative subdivisions as The Center of Intellectual Property Administration, Technology Transfer and Scientific Materials Commercialization; The Salon of Innovations, The Incubator of Competences and Businesses, The Directorate of Innovative and Technological Entrepreneurship, “The Innovative Belt” of Minor Intellectual Enterprises, Students Agencies and Business Centers.

In 2008\2009 academic year, declared as a year of methodical innovations, the University launched a “Development and implementation of system innovative and educational technologies” strategic program. The University started to create and implement a complex of advanced means and methods of teaching, including the formation of virtual educational environment of the university, by means of which a process of teaching becomes more interesting and effective.

International Cooperation


Pyatigorsk State University is an acknowledged center of peacebuilding in the North Caucasus; the university is oriented on the decision of region’s social problems. In 1996 the university scientists initiated “Pease Through Languages, Education, Culture” program. Within its framework, the university held 7 international congresses, which influenced the situation  in the North Caucasus a lot. VI congress (October 2010) had a special wider format: Russia – Big Caucasus – International Community.

The University has created an extensive network of Languages and Culture Centers performing educational, research and cultural functions. There is Anglistics and American Studies Center, Center of Francophonie, Hispanic Studies Center, German Language and Culture Center, Italian Language and Culture Center, Arabic Language, Islamic Studies and Culture Center, Chinese Language and Culture Center, Hebrew and Israeli Culture Center, Armenian Language and Culture Center, Greek Language and Culture Center, Center of the North Caucasus Languages and Cultures, Center of Polish Language and Culture, Center of Turkish Languages and Cultures, Center of Portuguese Language and Culture of Portugal and Brazil, and Center of Bulgarian Language and Culture is ready to open.


Dynamic development of the international connections, academic collaboration with foreign partners became constituent elements of the top-level global oriented experts. This dynamics, based on the 40-years of international experience and internationalization principles of higher school determines the basic priorities of activities of the Management of International Connections and Educational Programs, Institutes, and Higher Schools of PSU.

PSU's international connections cover almost all regions of the world - North and South Americas, Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa.


PSU is connected with international educational funds and organizations, educational establishments and language centers of the USA Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovenia, China, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Israel, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, and other countries. There are opportunities for foreign internships for hundreds of students and teachers every year. Together with Russian tutors 15-20 foreign teachers and experts take part in the educational process.

In total Pyatigorsk University offers today 24 foreign languages (including western, eastern, trans-Caucasian, North-Caucasian): English (British and American variants), French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Greek, Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Farsi, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Kabardian-Circassian, Karachai-Balkarian, Ossetic, Chechen, and Russian, also as foreign.


On June 1st, 2011 backed by the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in NCFD Aleksandr Khloponin the department of theology of PSU was transformed into the Institute of State Confessional Relations, which activated the work on training and retraining of human resources with profound knowledge of culture of state confessional and interconfessional interconnection.

All this allows strengthening of PSU function as the center of languages and cultures diversity, and a spot for interaction of state with civil society, unity force of different nationalities, ethnic groups, and religious confessions.

PSU is widely known in the country as well as abroad for the quality of its education. In October 2007, All-Russian “Parlamentsky Chas” TV program showed a plot about PSU, wh ere they marked the activity of the university as the training of experts on a world level. In May 2008 all-Russian “Institution’s Rector’ journal published information about PSU as an innovative HEI, including the cover page. All-Russian journal “Studenchestvo. Dialogi o Vospitanii” (Studentship. Dialogs about Education) published the whole complex of materials about the system of social competencies formation in PSU, as well as the materials about the HEI, high quality of its educational programs, and scientific researches, and about creative people formation.

In December 2014 regional TV channel “Rossiya-Kultura”, and in December 2015 SIMPEKS-STS and TNT-SIF started to show the PSU’s news program called “Informat” made by the University Media Center staff. Stavropol Krai and nearby republics get to know new information about the university events.

Pyatigorsk University comprises ten buildings on campus and downtown, five comfortable student dorms, conference and lecture halls, technically equipped classrooms and laboratories, thesis defense hall, modern language laboratories, multimedia halls, situational center, a computerized listening laboratory, a TV studio and press center, judicial clinic, criminalistics laboratory, gyms, Black Sea shore and mountain holiday camps. Everyone in PSU knows “The Big Break” cafeteria waiting for them at recess; there are comfortable cafes and snack bars wh ere you can have a cup of coffee and a snack with friends. There is music and latest university news on large TV screens around the campus.

Sport and Leisure


How great it is to be young when life is so happy and interesting… Spending your student years with peers is a great piece of luck. Quite a variable system of social and off-classes activities is in action here along with efficient social safety support of the students, teaching staff and personnel. There are excellent opportunities to evince and develop one’s creative skills and talents: various concerts, fest shows and theatricals enrich our lifestyle.

While on holidays both students and teachers can spend unforgettable days in a well-known camp “Damkhurts” in the mountains of Karachai-Cherkess Republic which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017 or in health centers at the Black Sea.

Sport is a very important part of students’ life. To be a sportsman means to follow a healthy lifestyle, train a strong character and iron will. An athlete of PSU is an honorary title.


The University sport life is quite eventful. The soccer, volleyball and tennis teams are steadily listed among winners of interuniversity and regional tournaments.

The Russian South best mountaineering club of PSU which was transformed into Pyatigorsk Caucasus Mountain School in 2010 do not stop surprising with its successful international top-level projects. The members of the university mountaineering club, statuted recently as Caucasian Mountainous School, planted PSLU corporate banner on the peaks of Ararat (Turkey), Mont Blanc (France), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Pico de Orizaba (Mexico), Olympia (Greece), Western and Eastern summits of Elbrus, the highest volcano of Asia Demavend (Iran), one of the most famous peaks of the Caucasus Kazbek, Ojos del Salado (Chili) the highest volcano in the world on the border of Chili and Argentina. In May 2015, the climbing team summited Elbrus to celebrate 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.

PSU is an outstanding center of linguistic and cultural diversity, a peace promotion center and a center of cooperation between the state and the civil society. Here students are not only told about interethnic friendship and respect towards other cultures, but they do make friends and learn to respect other cultures.
